Pointe-du-Buisson

Educational programs

Pointe-du-Buisson is a museum on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, with 20 different archaeological sites within its boundaries. For over 50 years, archaeologists have been excavating and uncovering over 2 million artifacts from many cultures and eras. Beneath our visitors' feet lie 5,000 years of history. Our teams are committed to helping visitors discover the history of these objects, and to bringing back to life the people who came before us. Through a variety of carefully prepared activities, students are immersed in the world of archaeology, Original Peoples and regional history.

Each visit to Pointe-du-Buisson is tailored to the needs of the student group. A team of specially trained animators supervises the students and ensures that the activities run smoothly, in a stimulating and safe environment. Activities include workshops both inside and outside the museum. Here you will find specific descriptions of the educational programs offered by Pointe-du-Buisson. These programs address specific stages of the scientific method, according to the age of the students. The museum offers an educational program that meets the requirements of the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec.

Preschool

The preschool program focuses on motor, social, cognitive and language development through the exploration of know-how and soft skills in a museum environment. At Pointe-du-Buisson, we believe that a visit to the museum is an experience in itself for the preschooler. It is therefore rhythmic, revolving around play, and helps lay the foundations for a child's conception of what a museum is.

All these activities are supervised by activity leaders who help children structure their thinking through reasoning, deduction and symbolic representations.

The objectives of the Pointe-du-Buisson preschool program are...

  • Practise motor, social and language skills through play;

  • Define links between artifacts from the past and objects from the child's reality;

  • Encouraging discovery.

To achieve this, we offer a range of activities in which the child is the master of his or her own learning. These include activities that build bridges between the museum's artifacts and the child's reality. In addition, some activities allow children to evolve in a new environment, while developing their motor skills. Other aspects of the visit allow for experimentation with games, giving children the chance to unleash their energy in a creative environment that encourages learning.
